Flowing lakes Anaktalik Lake

The Anaktalik Brook is an approximately 110 km long tributary of the Labrador Sea in the northeast of the Labrador Peninsula in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

A lake system about 470  m high, about 110 km west of Nain , forms the headwaters of the Anaktalik Brook. This initially flows 7 km to the south, before turning abruptly to the east. At river kilometer 99.8 there is a 15.3 m high waterfall, which makes it impossible for fish to migrate into the upstream river system. The Anaktalik Brook now flows almost dead straight through a deeply cut valley along a fault . Between the river kilometers 49 and 66 is the Anaktalik Lake , a river broadening that measures about 800 m on average. The Anaktalik River finally reaches the head of a bay with the Akuliakatak Peninsula on the south bank . The estuary is located 27 km west-southwest of Nain. The Anaktalik Brook drains an area of 1813 km². About 15 km further north, the Fraser River runs roughly parallel to Anaktalik Brook.

Fish fauna

Atlantic salmon , brook char , arctic char and American arctic char can be found in Anaktalik Brook .
