Anatoly Michailowitsch Kaschpirowski ( Russian Анатолий Михайлович Кашпировский ; born August 11, 1939 in Proskuriv , Ukrainian SSSR ) is a Russian psychotherapist, hypnotist and miracle healer, who became popular in the 1989/1990 through television appearances in the USSR . From 1993 to 1995 he was a member of the Duma for the LDPR faction .

biography

Kashpirovsky graduated from the Medical Institute in Vinnytsia , Ukraine , in 1962 and then worked as a psychotherapist in a psychiatric hospital for 25 years. In 1987 he was a psychotherapist for the national weightlifting team of the Soviet Union.

In 1989 Kaschpirowski became known nationwide through several appearances (so-called hypnosis sessions) on Soviet television. The later LDPR functionary Alexei Mitrofanov was one of the sponsors of these appearances . During one of these performances, Kaschpirowski hypnotized two patients who were undergoing an operation on their abdomen. The first television appearance took place on October 9, 1989.

In 1993 Kashpirowski was elected Duma deputy for the constituency of Yaroslavl . He initially belonged to the LDPR faction around Zhirinovsky and Mitrofanov, but resigned from it on July 1, 1995. In the same year he moved to the USA and offered hypnosis sessions against obesity for Russian emigrants at the price of 50 US dollars per session.

In 2008 he gave a telephone interview to Sobesednik magazine . He stated that he is now retired and that he spends a lot of time on the computer, managing the lists of those he has healed, as well as his diaries and interviews, with the intention of publishing them on his personal website.

In February 2009, some media in Russia reported that Kashpirowski would soon host a TV talk show on the private broadcaster NTW . A representative of the Moscow Serbsky Institute of Psychiatry then claimed that its programs could harm the health of television viewers.
