from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anaxagoras ( Greek  Ἀναξαγόρας ) is a king of Argos in Greek mythology . He was the son of Argeus and the father of Alektor . According to another tradition, he was the son of Megapenthes .

During the reign of Anaxagoras, the women of Argos were frenzied by Dionysus . Melampus wanted to heal them, but demanded a third of the empire for this. Anaxagoras refused. When the women grew even wilder, he summoned Melampus again. This now also demanded a third for his brother Bias . The king agreed, Melampus healed the women and so the rule was divided into Anaxagorids, Melampids and Biantids.

After Anaxagora's death, his son Alector succeeded him.
