Bias (son of Amythaon)
Bias ( Greek Βίας ), the conqueror , in Greek mythology is the son of Amythaon , the king of Pylos (see also Nestor's palace ) and his wife Aglaia or Idomene and brother of Melampus .
Iphiklos had stolen a herd of cattle from Tyro , Neleus ' mother . Neleus promised his daughter Pero to wife who would bring this flock back. With the help of his brother Melampus, Bias managed to steal the cattle and he married Pero. With her he had a son Talaos . Again with the help of his brother he gained a third of the royal dignity of Argos and founded the house of the Biantides. This was in the time of Anaxagoras ; Bias now married Lysippe , the daughter of Proitos . Other children were Areios , Leodokos and Anaxibia. After his death, his son Talaos became king of Argos.
In ancient times, the river Bias in Messenia was named after him.
