The Anchor Building is a commercial building in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was built between 1905 and 1907 to a design by the Scottish architect James Miller . The owner was the shipping company Anchor Line . In 2010, the Anchor Building was added to the register of endangered listed buildings in Scotland. At this point the Anchor Building was empty. At the end of 2014 a restaurant was set up on the ground floor. The establishment of a hotel on the upper floors began in the summer of 2017. In 2013, the condition of the anchor building was rated as relatively good with low risk.

The wide flanking windows are designed with stylized keystones with Mercury heads . The side entrances on the outer axes are designed with ionic columns. They carry parapets with cartridges . A balcony mounted on ornamented consoles stretches along the second floor . Colossal Ionic columns structure the facade along the fourth and fifth floors .
