Hultgård is different

Anders Hultgård (born December 23, 1936 in Stettin ) is a Swedish religious scholar and theologian .

After graduating from high school in 1955 in Norrköping , Hultgård initially did military service . He then studied German , French and Greek literature in Uppsala . In 1962, he took his master's degree in these subjects and then studied Protestant theology until 1965, completing the candidate examination.

After completing his studies, there was practical theological training and ordination as a clergyman in the Swedish Lutheran Church . In 1971 Hultgård received his doctorate from his teacher Geo Widengren with a study of the eschatology of a pseudepigraph , the wills of the twelve patriarchs . Since 1971 he has held a position as a lecturer for the history of religion in Uppsala, a subject he had already developed increasing interest in during his studies. He received his habilitation there in 1975 in the history of religion and psychology of religion . This was followed by a lectureship in a research center until 1985. In 1978 and 1980 he stayed for a few months as director of the Swedish Theological Institute in Jerusalem, where he also led an archaeological expedition. From 1985 to 1990 he was Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Bergen . In the spring of 1990, a visiting professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara followed. After returning to Uppsala in 1995, he was appointed to the newly established chair for the history of religion with a special focus on Indo-European religions.

Hultgård has been a member of the Nathan Söderblom Society since 1972 , of the Kungliga Humanistiska Vetenskaps-Samfundet i Uppsala since 1997 and of the Royal Gustav Adolfs Academy for Swedish Folk Culture since 2001 .
