András Nagy (born May 1, 1986 in Győr , † May 7, 2009 in Melbourne ) was a Hungarian boxer .

Career

András Nagy was 1.85 m tall, left wing arm , and boxed as an amateur middleweight division . He won the silver medal at the Cadet World Championships in Hungary in 2002 and reached the quarter-finals of the 2004 Junior World Championships in South Korea. In 2005 he became Hungarian middleweight runner-up and reached the quarter-finals of the EU championships in Italy. At the 2005 World Championships in China, he was eliminated in the second preliminary round against Emilio Correa . In 2006 he won the Hungarian middleweight championship and in 2007 played an international match against the eventual Olympic champion James Degale .

In 2008 he switched to the professional field and won his debut on September 13th against his compatriot Bence Tabajdi. Two more victories against Tamás Kántor and Gábor Balogh followed by the end of the year. During a training match on May 1, 2009 in Australia, András Nagy suffered severe brain injuries and collapsed. He was hospitalized in Melbourne, where he died a few days later despite two operations.
