András Sütő

András Sütő (born June 17, 1927 in Pusztakamarás , today Cămărașu , Romania ; † September 30, 2006 in Budapest , Hungary ) was a Hungarian writer .

Sütő was born in Romania. His works reported on the fate and life of the Hungarian minority living in Romania , such as his plays Traumkommando (1988) and Star at the stake (1979) as well as the novels Mîntulet in Paradise (1964) and Mother Promises Good Sleep (1980).

He has received numerous awards for his dramas, novels and essays, including the Milán Füst Prize (1978), the Herder Prize of the FVS Foundation (1979), the Hungarian Kossuth Prize (1992) and the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2005).

In 1990 Sütő was seriously injured in violent clashes between Hungarians and Romanians in Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely), Transylvania , and he lost an eye.
