András Vasy (* 1969 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian mathematician who studies mathematical physics.

Vasy studied mathematics and physics at Stanford University and received his PhD in mathematics (Propagation of singularities in three-body scattering) under Richard Melrose at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997 . He was a post-doctoral student at the University of California, Berkeley , with Maciej Zworski . In 1999 he became an assistant professor at MIT ( tenure from 2005) and from 2006 he was a professor at Stanford University.

He is concerned with micro-local analysis, especially with hyperbolic partial differential equations, for example the propagation of singularities of the wave equation on manifolds with singular boundaries and with scattering theory in asymptotic De-Sitter space times and Kerr-DeSitter space times in general relativity. He applied micro-local analysis to inverse problems and dealt with many-body scattering theory.

He was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul 2014 (Some recent advances in microlocal analysis).

In 2017 he received the Bôcher Memorial Prize for his work Microlocal analysis of asymptotically hyperbolic and Kerr-de Sitter spaces . The work gave impetus to further advances such as the proof of the global stability of the Kerr-De-Sitter solution by Vasy and P. Hintz.

He was a Sloan Research Fellow from 2002 to 2004 and a Clay Research Fellow from 2004 to 2006. He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2019 .
