biography
Origin and family
Andrä von Graben was a son of the Protestant nobleman Wilhelm von Graben , and a son of the Catholic nobleman Ulrich III. von Graben , Governor of Styria. Andrä himself, like his father, was Protestant. In 1536 he married Polirena von Reichenburg . There were no children from this marriage.
activity
The family of Andrä von Graben, the noble lords of Graben, owned Kornberg since Ulrich II von Graben was able to acquire it for his family in 1328. His descendants, as well as Andrä, expanded the castle's fortifications.
In 1510 Andrä von Graben was appointed bailiff of Windischgrätz for three years . He was also the owner of the princely fief Riegersburg , which he forgot to renew due to his own failure. It has thus fallen back to the sovereign as a settled fiefdom . He was also in possession of Gut Alt-Grabenhofen and possibly other goods Am Graben in Graz, which the Kornberg line inherited from the Conradinian line of the Lords of Graben Am Graben , which died out with Reinprecht IV vom Graben around 1468 . In a property appraisal in 1542, he appears next to his older brother Georg Siegmund von Graben, who died childless the following year .
Andrä von Graben bequeathed the "Veste and the Khornberg Castle" to his cousin Helfrich von Kainach in 1543 . In 1548 he only seems to have owned the dominions of Kornberg and Marburg of all his estates. After Andras's death in 1556, his widow Polirena and then his sister Anna von Graben took over as heirs of the Marburg , Obermarburg , Marburg Castle and Kornberg domains . Subsequently [in 1564] Kornberg was awarded to the Lords of Stadl . Obermarburg fell to Hans von Kainach, who held it on account.
Andrä von Graben is buried in Marburg. The red marble tombstone shows us his coat of arms, which is described in heraldic language as follows: In the red shield there is a silver grave stone placed on the handle, with a guard sheet covered in gold . another source speaks of the Radkersburg parish church.
