André Makengo Mazyambo

André Makengo Kisala Mazyambo (born October 1, 1955 in Mukoko , Maniema Province ) is a Congolese lawyer and professor of international law at the University of Kinshasa .

Education and professional career

Mazyambo worked at the Tujenge de Wamaza Institute in his home province from September 1975 to September 1976 , before studying law at the University of Kinshasa. There he completed his graduate studies in 1979 and obtained his license in 1983 . Mazyambo was admitted to the Kinshasa Bar in August 1984. He continued his academic career as a research assistant at his alma mater from 1986 to 1987. Between 1991 and 1993 he studied abroad at the University of Valladolid in Spain . There he further specialized in the field of international law. Mazyambo received his doctorate in law in 1997 . In the same year he received a call from the University of Kinshasa and has held a chair in international law there ever since. In addition to this academic activity, Mazyambo worked as an advisor to the Congolese Ministry for Public Facilities and Spatial Planning between July and September 1998. From June 1998 he took over the post of Chief of Staff of the Congolese Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He held this position until April 2001 and has been an advisor to the Ministry of Justice ever since. From 2004 to 2012 Mazyambo was also an expert on the United Nations Development Program .

Act

Mazyambo was nominated in 2002 by the government of his home country as a candidate for a judge's position at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg . However, he could not unite the necessary number of votes in any of the three ballots. In addition to his native Swahili and Lingála , Mazyambo is fluent in French, Spanish and English.
