André Verchuren

André Verchuren (born December 28, 1920 in Neuilly-sous-Clermont , † July 10, 2013 in Chantilly ) was a French accordion player .

biography

Guided by his father, a professional musician, Verchuren started playing the accordion at the age of four. He first appeared in public at the age of six, and at the age of twelve he played in front of the Belgian King Leopold.

During the Second World War, Verchuren worked for the French resistance . He was denounced, arrested by the Gestapo and taken to the Dachau concentration camp . In 1997 he was appointed officer of the Legion of Honor .

Artistic creation

As an artist, Verchuren was able to achieve remarkable success. In over 10,000 appearances, it reached around 40 million viewers. In addition, he has sold over 70 million albums, which is the world record in its genre.
