Andrea Bör

Andrea Bör (* 1970 in Munich ) is a German engineer . She was the first female chancellor of the University of Passau and in 2016 became the first female chancellor of the administration of the Free University of Berlin .

Life

After graduating from a girls' school, Bör studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Technical University of Munich as one of 20 women among 600 freshmen students and graduated in 1997 with a diploma. Since she was already a multiple mother, she was not trusted to enter the industry. So she became the first female research assistant at the chair for communication networks and received her PhD there in 2005 as a Dr.-Ing. in information technology in the field of e-learning . This was followed by posts as a consultant to a vice-president of the Technical University of Munich , and later as managing director of the local faculty for electrical engineering and information technology.

In 2008 she moved to Saarland University in Saarbrücken as Chief Information Officer , and in 2011 she became the first woman in the university management to become Chancellor of the University of Passau.

In 2016 she became the first female chancellor of the administration of the Free University of Berlin. As Chancellor, Bör is the manager of the administrative staff, responsible for resources, personnel, finances and rooms. She supports the President and, as part of the Presidium, in developing the university's overall strategy. As budget officer, she is responsible for an annual budget of around half a billion euros.

Bör is married and has four children. She commutes regularly to her family who lives in Munich. She is the granddaughter of the former Bavarian Minister of Education, Alois Hundhammer.
