Andrea O'Brien

Andrea O'Brien (* 1967 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Andrea O'Brien studied English and German at RWTH Aachen University and Trinity College Dublin and, after a few years at Carl Hanser Verlag, completed the postgraduate course in "Literary Translation" at LMU Munich . O'Brien translates fiction and factual texts from English and has received several awards for her work, including the Translator's Grant from the Free State of Bavaria in 2016 (for her translation of the novel An almost perfect wife by Jonathan Evison) and the Munich Literature Grant 2019 for her translation of the Romans What We Know About Each Other by Jessie Greengrass .

In addition to her translation work, Andrea O'Brien gives workshops and seminars, runs a blog on which she presents English-language suspense literature that has not yet been translated into German, and she writes for the online culture magazine CulturMag .

O'Brien lives and works in Munich and is a board member of the Munich Translators' Forum . She is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
