Andrea Zani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrea Teodoro Zani (born November 11, 1696 in Casalmaggiore near Cremona , † September 28, 1757 ibid) was an Italian violinist and composer .

Life

Zani received his first violin lessons from his father, an amateur violinist. He then took composition lessons from Giacomo Civeri , a local musician, and violin lessons from the court violinist Carlo Ricci . The Kapellmeister Antonio Caldara , who works in Mantua not far from Casalmaggiore, heard Zani's playing and invited him to accompany him to Vienna. Zani arrived in Vienna between 1727 and 1729 and worked there as a violinist in the service of the Viennese court. In 1739 he returned to Italy and worked in his homeland as a concert organizer, music teacher at an orphanage and in various noble houses.

Zani's works are influenced by Antonio Vivaldi , but a little less expansive. His late works illustrate a detachment from the baroque towards pre-classical elements. The cello concertos from Schönborn's Wiesentheid musical collection, dedicated to the art-loving Count Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn , are significant . The musicologist Eugene K. Wolf described Zani's symphonies as the first mature works of their genre.

  • op.1: 12 Sonate da Camera (Mantua 1727), the same sonatas were reprinted as op.3 Sonates a Violino solo e Basso da camera (Paris)
  • op. 2: 6 Symphony da Camera ed altrettanti Concerti da Chiesa a Quattro Strumenti (1729)
  • op. 4: 12 Concerti a quattro con i suoi ripieni (Vienna 1733)
  • op. 5: 12 Sonata a Violino e Basso intitolate "Pensieri armonici" (Vienna 1735)
  • op. 6: Sonata a Violino e Basso (Paris 1740)

In addition, numerous manuscripts can be found in various libraries in Europe, including

  • 3 flute concerts
  • 6 trio sonatas
  • 23 violin concerts
  • 12 cello concerts
