Andreas-Friedrich Gerber (born April 23, 1797 in Eggiwil ; † February 18, 1872 in Bern ) was a Swiss doctor , veterinarian , inventor of photographic processes and photographer .

Life

Gerber studied medicine in Bern, Tübingen and Bonn. In 1820 he became a prosector for animal anatomy in Bern, and in 1824 he became a teacher of anatomy at the veterinary school . In 1834 he became an associate professor for medicine and veterinary medicine at the University of Bern from 1963 to 1969.

In addition to his medical-anatomical work, Gerber also undertook a number of physical and chemical experiments.

According to Gerber himself, he had already succeeded in 1836 in taking photographs of "microscopic objects". The method used is chlorine silver recordings, similar to the daguerreotype . A report by Gerber from 1840 about his technology was only found again in 1989 at the University of Bern, as well as various photographs of the city of Bern.
