Andreas Christoph Niz

Andreas Christoph Niz , not Nitz (born February 4, 1764 in Greifswald ; † December 30, 1810 ibid) was a German philologist and educator.

Andreas Christoph Niz attended the Greifswald city school and studied from 1782 to 1787 at the universities of Greifswald and Jena . In 1792 he became vice rector and in 1801 rector of the city school in Wolgast, 25 km away .

In 1808 he went back to Greifswald, where he was rector of the city school and at the same time adjunct at the philosophy faculty of the university . There he gave lectures on Greek, Roman and Italian literary history. He edited a Greek dictionary and wrote writings on Greek and Roman history. He died in 1810, shortly after being appointed professor.

Karl Lappe , Johann Gottfried Ludwig Kosegarten and his friend Gottlieb Mohnike expressed their appreciation for Niz in their writings.
