Andreas Düben

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Düben (* 1597 in Leipzig ; † July 7, 1662 in Stockholm ) was a German Kapellmeister , organist and composer. His father was Andreas Düben (1555-1625), organist at the Thomas Church in Leipzig.

He received his training from 1614 to 1620 in Amsterdam with Sweelinck and, one year after moving to Sweden in 1624, took over the position of court organist in Stockholm. He remained loyal to this city and later worked there as organist of the German Church of St. Gertrud and court conductor of the Royal Swedish Court Orchestra (Kungliga Hovkapellet) . His descendants took over the office of court music director until the first half of the 18th century.

The few works he has survived include a motet , a Miserere and some organ compositions in which he can be clearly recognized as a student of Sweelinck.
