Andreas Friedrich Uhthoff
Andreas Friedrich Uhthoff (* 1780 in Bremen ; † March 16, 1860 in Bremen- Vegesack ) was an iron art caster in Bremen-Vegesack .
biography
Uhthoff learned the trade of a businessman. In 1822 he founded an iron art foundry in Vegesack. His work, which he created based on his own designs, can still be seen on many houses in Bremen. He and later his son Gustav manufactured ovens, railings, grilles and the like. His work also included the cast iron work for the parapets and ornamental grilles of the Bremen City Theater from 1843. His manufacture flourished in the post-classicism era , but had to close in 1875.
Honors
In the “Uhthoff room” of the local history museum in Schönebeck Castle there are several exhibits from Uhthoff's work. Particularly noteworthy are the relief of John the Evangelist and an oven.
Uhthoffstrasse is named after him at his former place of work in Vegesack .
