Andreas Herzau

Andreas Herzau (* 1962 in Mainz ) is a German photographer and lecturer in photography who lives in Hamburg .

life and work

Andreas Herzau trained as a typesetter from 1979 to 1982 . After completing his traineeship at the magazine specifically in 1985 in Hamburg, he worked as a freelance author from 1988 to 1991.

Since 1992 Andreas Herzau has dedicated himself exclusively to photography. In 1994 he photographed the drug scene in Germany. From 1994 to 1995 he produced photographic works on the civil war in Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Liberia. In 1996 he photographed a series about a deportation prison in Germany. From 1997 to 2001 he dealt with the project Me, Myself + I , a photographic examination of the self-portrayal of young people. From 2000 to 2002 he worked on the book Andreas Herzau - New York, a photographic essay of the city of New York, before and after the attacks of September 11, 2001. In 2006, the illustrated book deutsch land - a journey to the germans , a subjective inventory, was published about Germany a good 15 years after reunification. After that, other books about Istanbul and Moscow were written.

Andreas Herzau has been a member of the laif photo agency since 1999.
