Andreas Koch (* 1966 in Kierspe ) is a German guitarist . He also deals with the historical plucked the guitar family renaissance guitar and renaissance lute , vihuela , baroque guitar and with original instruments from the period of romanticism . He is also a specialist in playing the 11- and 13-string alto guitar.

Career

Koch began studying at the Robert Schumann Institute with Maritta Kersting in Düsseldorf in 1984 . In 1988 he passed the music teacher diploma, which was followed in 1991 by the artistic maturity examination. In 1993 he completed his studies with a concert diploma. His work with Leo Brouwer had a particular influence on him . He was a prize winner in 1987 at the international guitar competition in Mettmann and in 1991 at the international Paganini competition in Moneglia / Italy. In 1994 he was awarded the Schmolz and Bickenbach Prize from the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf .

As an arranger, he made transcriptions of lute works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods for alto guitar, thus giving the instrument access to this extensive repertoire.

In addition to his work as a guitarist, Andreas Koch also appears as a conductor of various orchestras and ensembles. Since 1997 he has been the organizer and orchestra leader at the Märkisches Gitarrenseminar and was conductor of the Lüdenscheider Chamber Orchestra from 2012 to 2016.

In addition to his solo activity, the performance of chamber music with guitar is part of his musical work. He appears as a duo partner with the guitarist Martin Wanat as Duo Concertino and with the pianist Frank Zabel as guitar with piano and guitar with organ on concert stages. With the violinist Maria Kaminskaia he formed the duo quattro e sei corde .

For over 15 years he has been working with Katja Fernholz-Bernecker in the line-up "Duo Accords galants". This line-up was particularly dedicated to researching, transcribing and performing music for plucked instruments from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Koch also works as accompanist for various singers, such as Irene Düsberg, Karin Zabel, Franziska Förster, Antje Bischof, (all soprano) and Kay Gunter Pusch (tenor).
