Andreas Unterguggenberger

Andreas Unterguggenberger (born May 7, 1969 in Würzburg ) is a German church musician and has been the cathedral music director at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau since January 2017 .

Unterguggenberger attended the Friedrich-Koenig-Gymnasium in Würzburg . He completed his training at the Academy for Catholic Church Music in Regensburg (today the University for Catholic Church Music and Music Education in Regensburg ) and then at the State University of Music in Würzburg . He took up his first position at St. Kilian's Cathedral in his hometown as assistant to the local cathedral music director. In 1996 he became the successor of KMD i. R. Walter Gleißner Stiftskantor at the Stiftsbasilika St. Peter and Alexander in Aschaffenburg . Under his leadership, the offers of the Aschaffenburg collegiate music were consistently developed and continuously expanded: In addition to the already established ensembles of the collegiate choir, the collegiate choirboys and the girls' choir, Unterguggenberger founded the chamber choir and the schola cantorum of the collegiate basilica. In addition, as artistic director he was responsible for the concerts in the collegiate basilica.

He also worked as the deanery church musician of Aschaffenburg-Stadt and as a trainer for the next generation of organists . Unterguggenberger is also active as a composer and founded the "Pueri Cantores" of the Diocesan Association of Würzburg.

He is married and has three children.

Since January 2017 Unterguggenberger has held the office of cathedral music director at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau .
