Andreas Wöhler (born February 10, 1962 in Dortmund ) is a trainer in German horse racing .

He celebrated his first successes as an amateur jockey in his father Adolf Wöhler's stable . After his father's death in 1986, he took over his racing team as a trainer at the Bremen racecourse . In 2004 he moved with his stable to Gütersloh .

In addition to many Group I victories with Lomitas , Silvano , Paolini , Sabiango , Querari and Earl Of Tinsdal , he won the German Derby in 1992 with Pik König , 1999 with Belenus , 2011 with Waldpark and 2016 with Isfahan . With victories in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes by Novellist , his career finally reached its preliminary climax in 2013. On November 4, 2014, he became the first German to win the Melbourne Cup with his horse Protectionist .

In 2009, 2011 and 2015 he won the trainer championship as the most successful German trainer. For his victory in the Melbourne Cup in 2015 he was the first non-Australian coach ever to receive the Fred Hoysted Medal .

In 2016 he won the German Racing Champions League as a coach .
