Andrei Ivanovich Selentsov

Andrei Iwanowitsch Selenzow ( Russian Андрей Иванович Зеленцов ; * 1896 ; † August 15, 1941 in Murmansk ) was a Soviet major general during the Soviet-Finnish winter war 1939-1940 and the continuation war of 1941. During the battle of Suomussenov commanded the 163rd Selussenivision Red Army , which was almost completely wiped out by Finnish troops in several weeks of fighting.

Selenov had been a member of the CPSU since 1918 . In the same year he joined the newly formed Red Army. From January 1938 to August 1939 Selentsow was the commander of the armored and motorized troops of the 3rd Rifle Corps. On June 4, 1940, Selenow was listed at number 139 among the holders of the newly created rank of major general . On June 14, he was given command of the 88th Rifle Division, later the 23rd Guards Rifle Division, which he led until his death in a bomb hit on August 15, 1941. In June 1941 he was also the commander of the Arkhangelsk military district.
