Andrei Vitalyevich Nelidow (born June 12, 1957 in Leningrad ) is a Russian politician and was President of the Republic of Karelia from 2010 until his resignation on May 22, 2012 .

Andrei Nelidow is a qualified industrial engineer. He began his political career in 1996 as Vice-Governor of Leningrad Oblast and Chairman of the Forestry Committee. After the electoral defeat of his sponsor, Governor Wadim Gustow in 1999, Nelidow switched to the private sector. From 2000 to 2002 he was President of the White Sea Onega Shipping Company. In 2001 he returned to politics as a member of the Leningrad Oblast Parliament. Because of his refusal to support the candidacy of the future governor Valeri Serdyukov , he was temporarily excluded from the Kremlin party United Russia in 2003 . In 2004 Nelidow was elected Vice President of Parliament. His membership in United Russia was renewed in 2005. After the resignation of the President of the Republic of Karelia, Sergei Katanandow , Nelidov initially took over his official duties at the end of June 2010. On July 17, 2010 he was nominated by President Dmitry Medvedev as the new President of Karelia. On July 21, he was elected to office by the regional parliament.
