from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrew Arbuckle (born April 12, 1944 in the Fife region ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats .

Life

Arbuckle attended Bell Baxter High School and Elmwood College in Cupar , where he earned a degree in agricultural science. He then ran a farm in eastern Fife near Newburgh . Arbuckle was president of the Scottish Farmers' Association .

Political career

1986 Arbuckle first appeared on a political level when he was elected to the regional council of Fife. He was a member of this until the 2000s. In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Arbuckle ran for the first time to national elections. However, he did not apply for the direct mandate of a constituency, but was set behind Keith Raffan in second place on the regional electoral list of the Liberal Democrats for the electoral region of Mid Scotland and Fife . Since the party could only win one list mandate in this electoral region in these elections, Arbuckle missed the entry into the newly created Scottish Parliament . Even in the following parliamentary elections in 2003 , he was unable to win a mandate under the same conditions. However, when Raffan resigned his mandate at the beginning of 2005 for health reasons, Arbuckle slipped to the next place on the electoral list and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time. Here he was the first member to be sworn in in the new parliament building. In 2007 Arbuckle was once again in second place on the regional electoral list. However, since the Liberal Democrats could not win list mandates for Mid Scotland and Fife, he resigned from parliament.
