Keith Raffan

Keith Raffan (* 1949 in Aberdeen ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats . He studied at the Universities of Aberdeen and Cambridge and has a PhD .

British House of Commons

Raffan was initially a member of the Conservative Party and appeared for the first time in the general election in October 1974 for the constituency of East Aberdeenshire , but only achieved the second highest number of votes behind the candidate of the SNP , Douglas Henderson . His next candidacy was in the 1983 general election when he ran for the Welsh constituency of Delyn and secured the mandate well ahead of the Labor Party candidate and defended it in the subsequent 1987 elections. Raffan did not run for the 1992 general election . As a result, he left the Conservative Party and joined the Liberal Democrats . Different information is available about the exact time of joining the party, ranging from 1992 to 1997.

Scottish Parliament

In the Scottish parliamentary elections in 1999 Raffan was the first candidate on the regional list for the electoral region of Mid Scotland and Fife and moved as a result of the election result in the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the following parliamentary elections in 2003 Raffan received again the only mandate of the Liberal Democrats in the region of Mid Scotland and Fife. At the end of 2004, Raffan came under fire for high travel expenses and gave up his mandate at the beginning of 2005 for health reasons. He was succeeded by Andrew Arbuckle .
