Shūichi Sekiya ( Japanese 関 谷 修 一 , Sekiya Shūichi ; born June 11, 1969 in Tsunan , Niigata Prefecture ) is a former Japanese biathlete .

As usual in Japan, Shūichi Sekiya belongs as a biathlete to the "Winter Combat Training Unit" (Tōsenkyō) of the ground self-defense forces . He lives in Tsunan and trains in Sapporo . Sakiya began in 1994 with the biathlon, and has for the start of the 1994/95 season to race the Biathlon World Cup in part. In his first sprint in Bad Gastein he was 93. His first success he achieved in the 1997-98 season , where he participated in the 1998 Winter Olympics from Nagano started. In the sprint he was together with Janno Prants 43rd, with Kyōji Suga , Hironao Meguro and Atsushi Kazama 15th of the relay race. The following season he achieved his best World Cup result with a 46th place in a sprint in Hochfilzen . The next major event was the 1999 Biathlon World Championships in Kontiolahti , where Sekiya was 71st in the sprint and with Yukio Mochizuki , Hironao Meguro and Kazumasa Takeda 17th in the relay race. For weather reasons parts of the World Cup had to be relocated to the Holmenkollen in Oslo , where the Japanese finished 66th of the individual. After that, he had no further bets at this level. In 2001 he started again in a Continental Cup sprint in Otoineppu .
