Hironao Meguro ( Japanese 目 黒 宏 直 , Meguro Hironao ; born May 18, 1973 in Hirokami , Kitauonuma County (today: Uonuma ), Niigata Prefecture ) is a Japanese biathlete . Between 1997 and 2002 he took part in all Olympic Winter Games and Biathlon World Championships .

Hironao Meguro lives in Hirokami and trains in Sapporo . The sports soldier , who started for the “winter combat training unit” of the ground self-defense forces , began biathlon in 1992 after some time cross-country skiing . He moved up to the Japanese national team to strengthen it in view of the 1998 Winter Olympics . In 1995 he made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Lahti and was 83rd in an individual. It was not until 1997 that he achieved his first notable result as seventh in a relay race in Antholz . In Osrblie Meguro took part in the Biathlon World Championships in 1997 and was 81st in the individual and eighth in the team competition with Atsushi Kazama , Yukio Mochizuki and Kazumasa Takeda .

At the domestic Olympic Games, the Japanese finished 28th in the individual and ran with Kyōji Suga , Shūichi Sekiya and Kazama in the relay on 15th place. After the games he reached 20th place in the sprint in Pokljuka and was shortly afterwards 21st in an individual in Hochfilzen . It was also Meguro's best World Cup results. In Pokljuka he was also at the World Championships in the competitions not held in the games 32nd in the pursuit. In the following three World Cup seasons, Meguro ran on points in three of the racing series, but always took lower places in the overall standings. In 1999 he started again at the World Championships in Kontiolahti , where he was 41st of the sprint, 54th of the pursuit and 17th with the Japanese relay. In the individual, which was relocated to the Holmenkollen in Oslo for weather reasons , he finished 30th. In the same place Meguro reached 44th place in the individual and 43rd in the sprint at the 2000 World Championships . In the pursuit race he improved to 23rd place and thus achieved his best result at a major event. In the relay held in Lahti , Japan was 17 with Meguro.

In 2001 Meguro took part in the World Championships for the last time in Pokljuka . In the individual, the Japanese was 59th, 58th in the sprint, 46th in the pursuit race and eleventh in the relay. The last major event was the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In the USA he started in singles and was 66th and 13th with Hidenori Isa , Suga and Mochizuki. At the Asian Winter Games in Aomori Prefecture , he won the sprint, the pursuit and the relay in 2003. Meguro still ran sporadically until the beginning of the 2004/05 season in the World Cup and the Biathlon European Cup , but has not been used internationally since then.

He is married to the biathlete Kanae Meguro .
