John Andrew Henry Forrest AO (born 1961 in Perth ) is an Australian entrepreneur .

Forrest studied Politics and Economics at the University of Western Australia . He holds significant stakes in the mining company Fortescue Metals Group , which he temporarily ran. According to the 2019 Financial Review Rich List, Forrest is among the 10 richest Australians. Forrest has assets of approximately 7.99 billion Australian dollars (equivalent to approximately 5.4 billion US $ as of 2019). He is married and has three children.

He has joined The Giving Pledge charity .

During the 2019/2020 bushfires in Australia , Forrest repeated his unsubstantiated claim that the fires were primarily due to the pollution of the forests by combustible material and arson, with climate change only playing a minor role. Science “still has a long way to go”. He called on donors to finance his foundation, with which "new climate research" secured in scientific peer review should be carried out.
