Andrew Hao Jinli

Andrew Hao Jinli (* 1916 in Tongzhou, Guizhou; † March 9, 2011 in Gonghui) was a Roman Catholic priest of the underground church and bishop of the Xiwanzi diocese in the Chinese province of Hebei .

Life

Hao came from a Catholic family. Next to him, two of his brothers became priests. Andrew Hao Jinli was ordained a priest in 1943 . He was a victim of the communist takeover and was eventually arrested by the Chinese authorities in 1958 and sentenced to ten years in prison for "counterrevolutionary crimes". After being released from prison in 1968, he was sent to the Gonghui Re-education Camp. He was not released until 1981.

After three years of pastoral work, he was ordained bishop of the underground diocese of Chongli-Xiwanzi in 1984, succeeding Melchior Chang K'o-hung . In 2002 he was hired by Leon Yao Liang as coadjutor because of increasing health problems .

Hao Jinli was a clergyman loyal to Rome and was never recognized by the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association .
