Andrew Poppy

Andrew Poppy (born May 29, 1954 in Kent , England ) is a British composer , pianist and music producer .

He studied music 1974-1979 at the Royal Holloway College and at the Goldsmiths College of the University of London . In 1981 he was one of the founding members of The Lost Jockey , which created and performed compositions in the style of Philip Glass , Steve Reich and Louis Andriessen . In 1982 he contributed the orchestral arrangements for the debut album Force The Hand of Chance by the industrial band Psychic TV . He later also made arrangements for Erasure , The The , The House of Love , Strawberry Switchblade and Nitzer Ebb .

His debut album as a solo performer was The Beating of Wings , which was released by ZTT in 1985 and on which he could both be heard on the piano and conduct a larger ensemble at the performance of one of his orchestral compositions. Since then he has released several albums, including the 2005 album Another Language with Claudia Brücken (ex- propaganda ).

Poppy teaches composition at Trinity College of Music in Greenwich , London .
