Andrew Talcott (born April 20, 1797 in Glastonbury , Connecticut , † 1883 in Richmond , Virginia ) was an American surveyor who also dealt with astro-geodetic measurement methods.

The Horrebow-Talcott method for precise astronomical determination of latitude , which Talcott refined in 1833, is named after him and the Dane Peder Horrebow (18th century) .

Talcott was captain of the US Corps and used a zenith telescope with micrometer eyepiece and mechanical circular divisions for the first time in 1834 . The photographic zenith telescope in use today is one of the most precise instruments for astronomical determination of position and has been further developed for monitoring the polar movement .
