Andrij Fedchuk

Andrij Wassylowytsch Fedtschuk ( Ukrainian Андрій Васильович Федчук , English transcription Andriy Fedchuk ; born January 12, 1980 in Kolomyja ; † November 15, 2009 in Ivano-Frankivsk ) was a Ukrainian boxer . Fedchuk was a bronze medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games .

Career

In the junior division (U19) Fedchuk won the bronze medal in the middleweight division (-75 kg) at the 1998 Junior World Championships.

In 1999 Fedtschuk took part in the World Championships and, after winning over Harald Geissler, Germany , and Paul Miller, Australia (6: 2), reached the quarter-finals, which he lost to the later silver medalist Adrian Diaconu , Romania (9: 1).

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he won the bronze medal in the light heavyweight division (-81 kg). He defeated Azziz Raguig, Morocco (RSC 3rd), Charles Adamu, Ghana (13: 5), and Gurcharan Singh, India (+12: 12), before beating Rudolf Kraj , Czech Republic (11: 7) in the semifinals , lost and thus won the Olympic bronze medal.

After the Olympic Games, Fedchuk was quiet for a long time before he returned to the World Championships in 2003 , but was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Aleksy Kuziemski , Poland (+10: 10). At the Olympic Games in the following year he won the first fight against Jitender Kumar, India (RSC 2nd), but lost in the round of 16 against Lei Yuping, People's Republic of China (17: 9).

Fedchuk played his last international championships at the 2005 World Championships , but was eliminated in the first fight against Washington Luiz, Brazil (21:16).

On November 15, 2009 Fedchuk was involved in a traffic accident near Kolomyja and died as a result of his injuries.
