The Pic Boby peak is an island mountain and Madagascar's second highest point. The mountains are located in the Andringitra National Park , which has an area of 31,160 hectares. The national park is famous for its high biodiversity , which has around 50 species of mammals , 55 species of frogs , over 100 species of birds and mainly endemic , around 1000 species of plants. Spectacular views through imposing mountain formations are omnipresent.

The national park has existed since 1999 and is looked after by the WWF . The access to the park entrance is via a very bad slope. Then you have to walk about six kilometers long, physically demanding, which leads through some villages of the rice- growing tribe of the Betsileo .

geology

The mountains are of volcanic origin from the Precambrian period , so they were probably formed very suddenly. Rock that comes to the surface is mostly granite , which is very fissured. Below the granite massif there are beautiful examples of metamorphic rocks, especially gneiss, in the river beds. The occurrence of usable precious metals is not known.

tourism

The Andringitra Mountains region is one of Madagascar's best-developed regions for tourism. Organized package tours can be booked as well as individual trips.
