from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andromachos ( Greek  Ἀνδρόμαχος ) from Aspendos was a general of the Ptolemies in the 3rd century BC. Chr.

Shortly before 219 BC Andromachos went from Greece to Egypt and joined the army of King Ptolemy IV at a higher rank . This ruler was then in the fourth Syrian war against the Seleucid king Antiochus III. Andromachos made an important contribution to the reorganization of the Ptolemaic armed forces. At the Battle of Raphia in 217 BC He was a commander of the central phalanx of the Ptolemaic army. Together with the minister Sosibios , through his victory over the opposing phalanx, he brought about the decision of the armed conflict in favor of the Egyptian king. Then he was appointed by Ptolemy IV as governor ( strategos ) of the reconquered Koilesyrien and Phenicia .

After that, Andromachos is no longer mentioned. At an unknown time, Thraseas succeeded him in the governorship.
