Andy Irons: Kissed by God is a film about bipolar disorder and opioid addiction by three-time world champion Andy Irons . Like millions of people around the world, the professional surfer wrestled with his illness every day. He was in the limelight for years, but very few people around him knew of his inner struggles that led to his sudden and early death. Here the film features extensive interviews with family members such as Andy Irons brother Bruce Irons, his widow Lyndie Irons and gives intimate glimpses of friendships with Joel Parkinson, Nathan Fletcher, Sunny Garcia and Kelly Slater .

His rise from the working class through his considerable sporting successes brought him not only world fame, but also a lot of sympathy and recognition. He became the role model for a whole generation. Irons was considered one of the best surfers worldwide and the only one who could hold a candle to the then world champion Kelly Slater. The greatest rivalry that has ever existed in surfing developed between the two.
