Andy Lawrence (musician)
Andy Lawrence (born November 2, 1954 in Swindon ) is a composer and musician from Great Britain.
Life
Andy Lawrence comes from a family of musicians. At the age of eleven he received trumpet lessons from Frank Goff of the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra . At the age of 17 he played in the American soul band The Fantastics . He toured Europe and Asia with the Roy Pellet Jazz Band for five years before settling in West Berlin . There he was a freelance artist and studio musician, but also worked as a composer and arranger. In 1984 he moved to Baden-Württemberg , where he taught the brass section of the Baden-Württemberg Youth Jazz Orchestra. Lawrence became the busiest trumpeter in southern Germany in the traditional style and performed with all the well-known southern German Dixieland and jazz bands . At times he led his own big band .
Andy Lawrence plays the trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn and also appears as a singer.
Lawrence was or is a member of Lindfors' Swing Affairs , Miss Mayer's Hinterhausjazzer , the New Storyville Jazzband , the Louis Prima Revival Band , the Louis Armstrong Revival Band , Joe Wulf & his Orchestra , Simply Swing , Peter Bühr & his Flatfoot Stompers and The Chicagoans .
