Andy Leggett (born March 31, 1942 in Much Wenlock , Shropshire ) is a British jazz musician (clarinet, saxophone, also vocals, guitar), songwriter and arranger who is active in the English old-time jazz scene.

Leggett received his bachelor's degree in French in Hull in 1964 and has played in traditional jazz music bands such as the Alligator Jug Thumpers (1968), the Pigsy Hill Light Orchestra (album of the same name in 1970) and in 1973 with a duo with Peter Finch since the 1960s . In 1975 he founded the formation Sweet Substitute , for which he also worked as musical director, composer / songwriter and arranger in the following years. He also toured with the Midnite Follies Orchestra , the Pasadena Roof Orchestra , Syd Lawrence , Bob Kerr 's Whoopee Hot Five and the Temperance Seven ; from 1996 he played with Rod Masons Hot Five / Hot Seven . Leggett also wrote songs for Mel Smith's play The Godmother , as well as film scores. In Germany he played a. a. with Lutzemann's Jatzkapelle by Lutz Eikelmann . Leggett was involved in 18 recording sessions in the field of jazz from 1974 to 2006. Stylistically, his clarinet and soprano saxophone playing is based on Sidney Bechet .
