Andrew "Andy" James O'Brien (born June 29, 1979 in Harrogate ) is a former Irish soccer player who last played from 2012 to 2014 for the Vancouver Whitecaps .

Career

O'Brien began his football career at Bradford City . From 1994 to 2001 he was under contract there. In 2001, the central defender, who can also play in defensive midfield, moved to Newcastle United . He completed the two seasons 2005/06 and 2006/07 for Portsmouth FC before moving to Bolton Wanderers on August 13, 2007 .

After he was initially on loan to Leeds United in the Football League Championship 2010/11 , Andy O'Brien moved in early January 2011 on a permanent contract basis to the club from Leeds .

Between 2012 and 2014 he played for the Canadian Vancouver Whitecaps .

National team

O'Brien is a former Irish international and was in his country's squad for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea , where he was not used.
