Andy Palacio (born December 2, 1960 in Barranco , Toledo District , † January 19, 2008 in Belize City ) was a Belizean musician. His commitment was to preserve the language and culture of the Garifuna in the form of music.

As a young man, Palacio went to Nicaragua to work on an educational program . Back home he participated in Punta Rock , which combines traditional Garifuna sounds with jazz and rock 'n' roll . In 1987 he learned to professionalise his music during a stay in England. His Garifuna Collective was an international ensemble that brought together older stars and young talent. The 2007 album Watina made him internationally known and topped the World Music Charts Europe that year. Together with Ivan Duran , he was awarded the WOMEX Prize. In addition, Palacio was named a UNESCO Ambassador for Peace.

Palacio died in January 2008 of complications from a stroke and heart attack. Attempts had been made to fly him to a clinic in Chicago; due to his hopeless state of health, however, the project was canceled and Palacio was brought back to Belize, so that he died in his home country.
