Aneurus laevis is a species of bug from the family of bark bugs (Aradidae).
features
The bugs are 4.5 to 5.2 millimeters long. They differ from the similar aneurus avenius by the position of the spiracles on the abdomen, which lie around the lateral margin and not on the abdomen.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is widespread in Europe from southern Scandinavia to the Mediterranean and North Africa. To the east, the distribution area extends to Russia and across Asia Minor to the Caucasus . In Central Europe the species has only been found locally, but is likely to occur everywhere. The species is rarer than the similar Aneurus avenius and apparently needs warmer habitats.
Way of life
The animals live under the bark of various dead deciduous tree species with fungal attack, such as B. Oak . The females lay their eggs several times a year. One can observe all stages of development side by side.
