features

The bugs are 4.4 to 5.1 millimeters long. They differ from the similar aneurus laevis in the position of the spiracles on the abdomen, which lie on the ventral side and not around the lateral edge.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is found in almost all of Europe, except in the south. In the east the distribution area extends to Siberia and over Asia Minor into the Caucasus . In Central Europe the species occurs everywhere and is common in places. In the Alps you can find them up to 800 meters above sea level. In Central Europe the species is found mainly from March to May and then again in late autumn. However, all stages of development can be observed side by side throughout the year.

Way of life

The animals live under the bark of various dead deciduous tree species with fungal attack, such as B. hazel ( Corylis ), oaks ( Quercus ), willow ( Salix ), poplars ( Populus ), Linden ( Tilia ), Book ( Fagus ), hornbeam ( Carpinus ), birch ( Betula ), alder ( Alnus ), apples ( Malus ), but also on shrubs such as privet ( Ligustrum ), elderberry ( Sambucus ), spindle bushes ( Euonymus ) and snowball ( Viburnum ). They are rarely found on softwood.
