Angel Angelow

Angel Angelow ; Bulgarian : Ангел Ангелов; English transcription : Angel Angelov (born July 10, 1948 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian boxer.

Boxing career

He took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , where he won the silver medal in the light welterweight division. He beat Luis Contreras from Venezuela (knockout) in the preliminary round, Walter Desiderio Gómez from Argentina (4-1) in the round of 16, Srisook Bantow from Thailand in the quarterfinals (knockout) and in the semi-finals Issaka Daboré from Niger ( 5: 0). Only in the final he lost just 3-2 to Ray Seales from the USA.

At the European Championships in 1973 in Belgrade, however, he was eliminated in the light welterweight division in the round of 16 against the later silver medalist Anatoly Kamnew from the Soviet Union.
