Angus McBean

Angus McBean (born June 8, 1904 in Newbridge , Monmouthshire in South Wales, † June 9, 1990 ) was a Welsh photographer, set designer and cult figure of Surrealism .

Angus BcBean began his career in the theater as a makeup artist and landscape designer before devoting himself to full-time theater photography. McBean is known for his theatrical and inventive photography of the 1930s and 1940s. Often imitated in the course of his career, his influence can still be felt today, especially in advertising. In 1935 he opened his own studio. His prominent style was soon published in shiny magazines. The 1936 Surrealist Exhibition was an influence on McBean's theatrical portraits. After the Second World War , he opened a larger studio in Covent Garden , and in the 1940s and 1950s it was inundated with commissions from theater companies. In the 1960s, McBean photographed the Beatles for their first album.
