Angustopila is a genus of the Hypselostomatidae from the suborder of land snails (Stylommatophora). The species Angustopila dominikae ,described in 2015,is (currently) the smallest land snail.
features
The species of the genus Angustopila have very small, conical shells that range from 0.86 mm in height to a few millimeters. There are up to about five arched or slightly shouldered windings that increase regularly. The turns are separated from each other by a deep seam. The last turn can loosen somewhat from the penultimate turn. The Protoconch can be easily sunk into the two turns. The muzzle can lie against the penultimate passage or be (partially) detached. There are one or two teeth in the mouth, an upper parietal tooth and an opposing palatal tooth. The mouth rim is slightly bent back.
Apart from fine strips of growth, they are almost smooth. The protoconch has spiral and radial lines that create a reticulate pattern.
Similar genera
The Angustopila cases differ from Tonkinospira in their smaller dimensions and more conical shape and the slightly outwardly curved mouth rim . In addition, Angustopila always has one or two mouth teeth. The genus Acinolaemus usually has more mouth teeth and a turban-shaped shell. The genus Krobylos is characterized by cases with beveled windings and toothless mouths. In addition, the spiral lines on the surface of the housing are missing, and the muzzle lies against the penultimate turn.
Geographical distribution and habitat
The species of the genus Angustopila are native to Thailand, Malaysia and southern China.
Taxonomy
The taxon was established in 2014 by Adrienne Jochum , Rajko Slapnik & Barna Páll-Gergely . The authors determined the species Systenostoma tamlod , which Panha & Burch had already established in 1999, to be the type species. The name is a combination of the Latin words angustus = eng, and pila = pillar; the gender is feminine. The following species are currently included in the genus Angustopila :
- Genus Angustopila Jochum, Slapnik & Páll-Gergely, 2014
- Angustopila concava (Thompson & Upatham, 1997)
- Angustopila dominikae Páll-Gergely & Hunyadi, 2015
- Angustopila elevata (Thompson & Upatham, 1997)
- Angustopila huoyani Jochum, Slapnik & Páll-Gergely, 2014
- Angustopila fabella Páll-Gergely & Hunyadi, 2015
- Angustopila subelevata Páll-Gergely & Hunyadi, 2015
- Angustopila szekeresi Páll-Gergely & Hunyadi, 2015
- Angustopila tamlod (Panha & Burch, 1999)
