Anidorus nigrinus , also known as the common tree mole beetle , is a beetle belonging tothe tree mole beetle family (Aderidae). In Central Europe, Anidorus nigrinus is the most common of a total of nine species of the family that occur there.

features

The slender black or brownish-black beetles have a body length of 1.6–2.5 mm. The base of the feelers , the buttons and the front and middle legs are brownish-yellow in color. The femora are darkened. The posterior femora and the posterior tibia, with the exception of their base, are black in the male. In females, only the femora of the hind legs are black. The posterior femora of both sexes are stronger than the anterior two. The pronotum is rounded. The elytra of the males are slimmer than those of the females. The third antennae in males is broad and parallel. It's twice as long as the fourth.

distribution

Anidorus nigrinus is native to the western Palearctic . The occurrence of the species decreases from Central Europe to the south and north. The species is absent in the British Isles .

Way of life

The beetles are observed between mid-May and late July. Their typical habitat are clearings and edges of coniferous forests with spruce or pine trees . The larvae develop in rotten wood.
