history

Richard Sauberlich (singer, guitarist and pianist) met the bassist Hamish Crombie while studying at a London art school. When the two made the acquaintance of drummer Geoff Lea shortly afterwards, the group was complete and the musicians signed a record deal with Warner Records in 2008.

In early 2009, the band recorded their first album Signs and Wonders in Seattle . It was produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, The Walkmen). The debut received positive reviews. Although it was only released digitally in the US, iTunes made “Tin Man” the single of the week and named Animal Kingdom the best new alternative band. The band toured extensively around the UK around the album release.

In 2009 Animal Kingdom supported the British band Snow Patrol on their Take Back the Cities tour as a support act .

After joining Universal Music Group in 2011, they recorded new songs in an old church in north London that had been converted into a recording studio. In the in-house studio of their producer David Kosten (Bat For Lashes, Everything Everything), the band completed the album The Looking Away in summer 2012. She then went on a European tour as the opening act for Maxïmo Park .
