Anisochromis is a genus of small marine fish from the dwarf perch family(Pseudochromidae). The three species of the genus occur in the western Indian Ocean on the coast of East Africa, northern Madagascar and the Cargados-Carajos Islands .

features

All three Anisochromis species are very small and only reach body lengths of 2.5 to 3 cm. They have a typical dwarf perch shape with a continuous dorsal fin supported by a spiked ray and 25 to 27 soft rays and a two-part side line of which the first, longer section follows the back line, while the second is located in the middle of the caudal fin stalk. The entire sideline extends over about 38 to 44 scales, 28 to 39 of which are in the front part. 14 to 44 sensory pores of the lateral line system are located on the parietal bone , one to four of them between the eyes. The anal fin has a spine and 17 to 19 soft rays.

Way of life

Anisochromis species live in coral reefs , very hidden between the branches of branched hard corals ( acropores ). Like all dwarf bass, they are protogynous hermaphrodites .
