Anita Engels

Anita Engels (* 1969 ) is a German sociologist and climate researcher . She is full professor for sociology , in particular globalization , environment and society , at the University of Hamburg , department of social sciences, as well as deputy spokeswoman for the cluster of excellence "Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction" ( CliSAP ). She is also the managing director of the Center for Globalization and Governance (CGG) and on the board of the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) (both at the University of Hamburg).

Career

Engels studied sociology at Bielefeld University , where she obtained her doctorate in 1999 with a dissertation at the interface between development , environmental and scientific sociology . 1999 to 2001 followed by an eighteen-month postdoc stay at the Institute for International Studies, Stanford University . Afterwards collaboration in various DFG- funded projects at the Institute for World Society at Bielefeld University. From 2005 to 2009 she was junior professor for sociology at the University of Hamburg, from 2009 W3 professor. In autumn 2010 she was offered a W3 professorship for the Sociology of Science at Bielefeld University, which she declined. In the summer semester 2011 she was a visiting scholar at the School of Education, Stanford University for one semester, and in the 2016 summer semester she was a visiting scholar at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales for one semester . Engels' research focuses on sociological climate research , social scientific theories of globalization and world society , economic sociology , the emergence of "green" markets , emissions trading and science research . She is currently researching u. a. the development of the CO 2 emissions trading system in the People's Republic of China .
